My girls and I had the opportunity to attend Bug A Boo at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster Colorado over the weekend and we had a blast! My girls got all dressed up in their Frozen costumes for an afternoon of indoor trick or treating, and invertebrate-viewing fun! Here are some of the highlights of our trip...
In the marine invertebrates exhibit, kids can see a variety of interesting sea creatures and get up close and personal at the touch tanks – They can feel sea stars, and horseshoe crabs!
In the Wings of Tropics exhibit, kids can enter the rainforest and see many butterflies. If they hold very still, the butterflies might even land on them! Having an Owl Butterly land on her finger was the highlight of my oldest daughter's day. It was really neat to see all the chrysalides from different countries too – We were able to see butterflies coming out of them too!
There was a pumpkin decorating table set up in the ball room where the kiddos were able to decorate their own mini pumpkin to take home. They had googly eyes, stickers, and markers to help the kids express their creativity.
Other activities in the ball room include face painting (tips go to support the pavilion), a balloon artist, cockroach races, caricatures, and a photo booth.
After your fun, you can take a break outside walking the paths and enjoy a picnic lunch in one of the covered pavilions!
Don't forget to hold Rosie the tarantula while you're there! Kiddos who are brave enough will get an "I Held Rosie" sticker! In the Crawl-A-See-Em, you'll get to view several species of arthropods.
If you're stationed in Colorado or visiting the Denver are, Butterfly Pavilion is a great place to take the kiddos! I would allow about 2.5 hours to get to see everything (a little longer if you plan to eat lunch there). The Butterfly Pavilion is open from 9-5 daily and admission is $9.50 for Adults, $7.50 for Seniors (65+), $6.50 for Children (2-12), and Free for Children (under 2). They offer a coupon for $2 admission on their website here – Coupon is valid for up to 4 admissions.
