Self-Care Program: Free Over The Counter Medications for Military
Did you know that the military has a Self-Care Program at many installations available to all Tricare Beneficiaries? At some installations all soliders are given the Self Care brief during in processing so they can already take advantage of the program. Spouses can take advantage of the program by enrolling and participating in the Self Care class on post.
What does the Self-Care Program cover? Basically any common condition that you can easily treat at home without a prescription. You will receive free medications (in limited quantities) of your choice each month to treat your families ailments that do not warrant a trip to the doctor. My family mainly uses our benefit to get children's pain reliever and our allergy medications, but there are quite a few products you can choose from.
They will also teach you about a healthy lifestyle that will decrease your risk of illness and disease as a part of the program.
For more information about the program on your installation contact your medical center, Wellness Center or Health Promotion Office.
At my duty station you can take advantage of the program at any on post pharmacy. You just fill out the form indicating which medications you would like that month and turn it in. You don't even have to take a number and wait 30 minutes!
