I have to admit that over the last year or so I have really fallen off the healthy eating wagon and am lucky to get in one good workout a week so I was actually really excited for the chance to review the S.A.S.S. Yourself Slim. I mean who doesn't love a diet that has a mandatory chocolate escape built in? After starting my reading I decided to go ahead and try out the Fast Forward plan and I have been implementing some of the recipes into my diet. I ended up loving it and I'll write about some of that later, but this one is about the actual book itself.
About the Book:
S.A.S.S. Yourself Slim is written by Cynthia Sass, the creator and co-author of the New York Times Bestselling Flat Belly Diet. It is a 30-day weight loss program which aims to end overeating and help dieters enjoy food combinations that burn fat and boost metabolism while still leaving them feeling full and satisfied.
During the 30-day diet you will eat 4 meals per day comprised of a broad, but specific array of foods chosen based on research. There are also several rules to follow which aim to teach you a healthy dieting lifestyle that you can continue once the 30 days has passed. S.A.S.S. Yourself Slim teaches you how to get your body back, and refocus your attention and energy where they should be — on living and enjoying your life.
The book also includes several recipes as well as tools to create your own based on the meal requirements you should be following.
My Thoughts:
When I first started reading I was skeptical. As a deal minded mom who works hard to save every penny I can, the main thing that weighed heavy on my mind was the cost of eating the foods outlined in the diet. After contemplating it more I realized just how much my "craving for savings" has affected other parts of my life. Basically I was saying, "it's too expensive to eat food that are good for you," and that's just crazy! Our body is the only one we get so feeding it the best foods we can afford is actually a really smart investment that will save us more in the long run.
In the book Cythina addresses the issue of the cost of organic foods and outlines some ways you can save as well as some ideas for which products are the most important to buy organic if you can't afford all of them. She does state that you can buy non-organic foods, but gives lots of great reasons why you should.
I love the way she explains the logic behind the 30-Day diet plan and why each of the foods are included. There were a lot of things included in the book that I knew were good for me, but did not really know why they were so much better than the alternatives.
The 30-day plan and recipes seem very easy to follow to me. Each recipe is comprised of 5 key foods and it is very easy to switch out something you don't like for something you do. Getting started is really easy as you can just pick the recipes you want to do that week and make a shopping list. Overall I am not sure I would stick 100% to this exact plan, but I do plan to utilize a lot of her concepts and recipes into my weight loss plan which I hope will become my new eating lifestyle. I think this book is a great reference for anyone looking to loose weight and/or eat better.
I received a copy of S.A.S.S. Yourself Slim to facilitate my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
