Commissary Coupon Policy Change (Effective May 1, 2012)
I visited the Commissary at Fort Hood today and I spotted the sign pictured above indicating that there will be some changes to the DeCA Coupon Policy effective May 1st, 2012. Most of the changes do not affect the use of coupons, but they address how overages will be handled. The main point? You will no longer receive cash back no matter how large the overages are. It has always varied by location, but now there will be a uniform policy for addressing overages. Here are the changes listed on the memo:
Gift Cards will be issued in conjunction with cash whenever $25 or more is owed to the Customer due to coupon overages.
(This means that if you have $28.92 in overages, you will receive a $25 Commissary gift card and $3.92 in cash. You will never receive more than $24.99 back in cash from any transaction).
Gift Cards will be issued, in conjunction with cash, for refunds of $25 or more when a receipt is presented if the original merchandise was purchased with gift cards.
Gift Cards will be issued, in conjunction with cash, for refunds of $25 or more without a receipt.
They will also be clarifying the dot-scan requirements and unique PIN #s for printable coupons as well as stressing copies of printable coupons are not allowed. Coupons must be printed in English.
(This is the only part that may affect your day-to-day coupon use. The policy already states that printable coupons must have a dot scan barcode and unique pin or serial number, but this will stress that more. What this means is that you will not be able to use many of the printable coupons that are released as pdf files.)
When the official policy is released I'll be sure to go over it and post any differences of note. Most of the changes won't affect the average couponer -- It's the people going in to get huge overages who will no longer be able to walk out with piles of cash that are going to see a huge difference. Personally, this doesn't affect me that much since I usually apply any overages to other items in my cart anyway.
