We covered Step 3 yesterday about how to use the ads and your coupons together to save even more money! I thought it might be a good idea now to go through some of the most shopped at stores and how to save more there or use them to gain the most savings!
*Shopping at the Commissary Tips*
1. Read Commissary 101 if you are new and make sure you know their coupon policy. The major part of it I have had problems with is that they do give back the FULL value of the coupon (such as if an item is $1.50 and your coupon is $2 off, they need to take the full $2 off your bill. The coupon company will give them $2 for that coupon, so they need to pass on those savings to you to be fair).
2. One thing I almost always find cheapest at the Commissary is their meat. Steaks, hamburger meat, and chicken are always on our list when we go there...well, maybe not steaks, but they are when the hubby goes shopping! :)
3. Find items that give you overage, stock up on them by buying as many as you can and use the overage to pay for other items like produce or meat that you can't get coupons for or just the rest of your list. I will even buy coupons I know that will give me overage because I will pretty much get paid back for them by the end of the transaction.
4. When you walk in pick up the sheets of coupons...sometimes I find good coupons for brands I've only seen at the Commissary. An example is Cooper Cheese - I've found a coupon to match to the sale for that cheese that makes it super cheap.
5. If you do not have coupons for other items and they are not on sale at other stores, you are pretty safe in knowing you can get it cheapest at the Commissary (at least that's what I think..)

Having a coupon binder has helped me save a lot of money at the commissary. Since they don't have ads, you might not know something is super-cheap until you're at the store, and the binder allows easy access to my coupons so I don't miss the good deals! I also always check the clearance section, and with my coupons I've found some pretty good surprise deals.
Of course, the case lot sales are always fun, too! But the trick to those is go in the mornings before they run out of coupons, because you can save a ton of money if you can get the stacks of coupons they pass out and tape to the boxes.
