To some it sounds crazy or indulgent, but I love doggie day camp/daycare! I have not used the one at PetSmart, but have used others. I usually take my dog every couple weeks or so, on a Friday or when I know I'll be gone all day. He loves it and I feel good knowing that he had fun and got great exercise (and it gives me a break from the loooonnnnnggg walk we must take to wear him out!). I consider this an indulgence for me and him!
PetSmart has a coupon out for a FREE Day of Doggy Day Camp. I like to check it out the week or a couple days before around the same time I would bring my dog in, that way I meet who is working and see the dogs that will be there while my dog is there. I stay and observer for awhile. I talk to the people, ask questions, and then bring my dog in for a quick visit to see how he reacts to the environment. (I know..sounds a bit...controlling...maybe, but it makes me feel better). :)
