Tonight, while using this coupon at Ruby Tuesday's, I got to talking to a couple who were on a kid free date. We started discussing the cost of going out to eat with kids and swapped 'where kids eat FREE or cheap' stories. I thought I would share some tips for going out to eat, that have worked for me.
- If you have two coupons, but aren't allowed to double up, just ask for two checks (if there are at least two adults). I did this tonight at Ruby Tuesdays and paid $25.18, plus tip for 4 entrees, including steak ( I didn't even have to order off the kids menu!).
- To make coupons that exclude kids meals work for my family, I always order my 2 and 1 year olds a regular entree (which are usually more nutritious than kids menu items anyway), and have them split it.
- Also, Sailor Dan (my husband) and I always order water. It is free and better for us. AND if I can, I bring along full sippy cups for the kids so I don't have to order separate drinks for them. This can save up to $10 on the bill. Here's why, if a family of four orders two $1.99 sodas and two $1.99 milks or juices that is $7.96 then add tax and tip, that could be $10 - JUST IN DRINKS!
- Here are a few things to check out before dining out with the family. Kids zone (for where kids can eat cheap or free) and always go to your restaurant of choice website and subscribe or sign up for their site to get any coupons or promotions they offer.
- If you have any advice or suggestions to help other families dine out on a budget, leave your comment here.
